25 January 2014, the European Confederation of Youth Clubs Was Here

They reach over 2 million people every year. ECYC unites over 10,000 youth clubs from all over Europe through 19 national member organisations. They are one, if not the biggest, youth networks from our continent.

The vision of the European Confederation of Youth Clubs (ECYC) is to empower young people through open youth work and non-formal learning in order to promote democratic and civil society and to encourage young people to be actively involved in their communities.

ECYC represents a European network of youth work and youth club organisations that practice and promote open youth work and non-formal education. The organisation has at its heart the supporting of youth clubs and other forms of neighbourhood youth work.

Involving young people and helping them participate actively in their community is the leading principle of Open Youth Work as delivered by ECYC members. ECYC uses open youth work and non-formal education methods in providing young people with the skills and knowledge to make their own informed decisions.

Presidents of national youth club networks from Ireland, Belgium and Cyprus together with the executive leadership of the confederation visited us in order to start a set of cooperations in the context of the European Youth Capital.

Main topics of cooperation relate to direct contacts with several national organizations from Norway, Belgium, Iceland, Ireland, a specific cooperation with the Vallonian member from Belgium with its headquarters in Mons, a twin town of Cluj-Napoca, promoting participation at the Connector 2014 Non-Formal Happening and all its preparation processes, specific projects and activities in order to import ECYC’s huge experience in youth work in the field of formal and non-formal education. Specific events, already during 2014, are to be brought to Cluj-Napoca.
