It might seem a big number. Back then, when we were on course of winning the title, 24,000+ seemed also very much. It is not. It is just a starting point, and there is and there has to be a lot more. This is about the spirit of Cluj. Yes, you might think the spirit is already catched from several persoectives. There is an I Love Cluj. Or there is the TIFF page, or there are a lot of other very good initiatives with a representation on Facebook too (Electric Castle started very international).
But there are none international. We still lack a good communication in at least one languages understood by all Europeans not knowing any Romanian (or on a smaller scale, Hungarian). We seem to communicate to ourselves. We still haven’t learned. Cluj’s future is one where and when it becomes very much international.
There is no catch, the target really is 200,000+. It was assumed in the bid book for this title, one way or anorther we have to connect 200,000 people.
But this should be very easy – let’s start with a little counting: Cluj has over 300,000 inhabitants, and some 100,000 students. There is a European Community of over 400 million. And we are a European Youth Capital. By the way, 96% of our inhabitants are satisfied with living in the city of Cluj-Napoca. And safety? Well, 90% think safety is very much okay in this city.
There are real conditions to connect 200,000 people with this European Youth Capital story. Probably 200,000 is just a start. What do you think?
By the way, there is a check-in spot for Youth@Cluj-Napoca 2015. Search it and check-in here: it is the famous cross on the south-western side of Piata Unirii. Half distance between Mathias Rex and the TIFF House. Half distance between the City Hall and the Romanian Opera… Half distance between the House of Mathias, and Házsongárd, Cluj’s most famous cemetery. It is the veritable Km 0 of Cluj-Napoca.
